IO5. Proposal for a comprehensive curriculum

IO5.01. Course catalogue (EFESE depository app)

The depository app, which fulfils the need for a course exchange platform under IO2, is also used in the context of some of the ambitions of IO5. In the first place, it serves as a catalogue of courses that could be incorporated in a comprehensive curriculum on social security. Furthermore, the mandatory approval of submitted courses by the coordinator guarantees the uniformity of the courses and makes possible the screening of their academic quality. Besides ‘collecting’ material, this approach allows us the ‘select’ the courses that fit better into the planned curriculum and approach the relevant authors. Finally, the exchange initiative, which is facilitated by the depository app, could provide incentives for other academic institutions to join and submit their own courses. This enlarges the pool of courses available for implementation into the common curriculum.

IO5.02 Proposal on a joint master in European social security

The proposal narrates in detail how a comprehensive curriculum for a joint Master on European social security, with a focus on blended learning, could become a reality. It tackles all the necessary aspects, like the academic programme, the learning outcomes, the monitoring and evaluation of the programme, the arrangements for student and staff mobility, the administrative formalities, and others. The document also highlights the relevance of the joint master and the strategy to have it fully accredited and recognized. This proposal is one of the main results of the targeted collaborative work of EFESE. It was enriched by all the other intellectual outputs, especially IO3 and IO4.

IO5.03 Questionnaire on the combination of virtual and residential instruction

The questionnaire consists of 14 questions which aim to record the attitudes of the participants towards the combination of virtual and residential training. This kind of training was provided in the EFESE Young Researchers School (YRS) in Ljubljana (June 2016) and Spetses (June 2017). The questionnaire also refers to the organization of the training and the online learning platform. This instrument can be used in other attempts to assess and improve blended instruction.

IO5.04 Report on the combination of virtual and residential instruction

The report illustrates the results of two studies. The first one corresponding to the Young Researchers School in Ljubljana (June 2016) and the second one corresponding to the Young Researchers School in Spetses (June 2017). The aim of both studies was to record the attitudes of the learners towards the combination of virtual and residential training, the organization of the school, and the online learning platform.
