Young Researchers School, 6- 10 June 2016, Ljubljana
Nearly thirty high-profile young researchers from more than ten different world countries gathered in Ljubljana to attend the Young Researchers School “Research Methodology in Comparative Social Security”.
From Monday to Friday (6th- 10th of June 2016), the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana hosted the EFESE Young Researchers School. It was quite a ride one could say. The workload of the week was not to be underestimated as the participants obtained a formal training certificate of 3 ECTS, which equals 90 hours of work (including the previous preparation at home via a blended-learning course). In Ljubljana, every day was divided into three parts:
The first part of the day was dedicated to the lectures of well-established foreign and domestic speakers; for instance, prof. dr. Gijs Vonk from the University of Groningen and prof. dr. Ulrich Becker from The Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy gave a lecture on open issues of the usage of the comparative method in the field of social security and social protection.
The second part of the day was dedicated to the participants and the presentations of their research papers, which were prepared in advance. Very vivid and interesting discussions were held after nearly every presentation and this was, without a doubt, one of the biggest added values of the event. Many of the participants reported that they were given extremely useful guidance and advice for forthcoming research work.
As it ought to be, the third part of the day was dedicated to socializing, fun activities, and personal relief. All these more than needed given the heavy daily workload.
In the two last days, time was also allocated for a broad and challenging role game activity. The participants were divided into groups and had to prepare a draft of a research project that would be financed by the EU on the topic of migration.
One of the most memorable social events was the trip to Bled, a beautiful Alpine lake, where dinner was served in the old castle at the top of the rock next to the Lake. The school concluded with a farewell dinner that was prolonged into a party till the next day, as rumors says.
