Three EFESE Courses In Kazan Federal University, Russia, October 2016
The courses “Basic concepts of social security I & II” developed by Prof. Dr. Danny Pieters and “Research design and methodology” from Dr. Lina Kestemont have gone as far as Russia!
The beneficiaries were 35 students, including those pursuing a doctorate. From the 24th to the 28th October 2016, Prof. Schoukens visited Kazan to meet the students in person. He introduced the EFESE project and discussed with some university authorities the possibilities of extending the EFESE network to Russia. Interest in the EFESE project keeps growing!
Course on Research Design and Methodology
The course on Research Design and Methodology was delivered, first online and later face-to-face, at the Kazan Federal University by Professor Dr. Paul Schoukens (KU Leuven, Belgium) from October 27th to 29th 2016. PhD students from the Department of International and European Law of KFU were given the chance to attend the course and reflect on their own research from a different angle.
First the students followed the online course, including reading materials, videos, and exercises. During the face-to-face part, each participant presented the topic of their research. Further, students went into “peer review” in pairs and finally everybody received feedback on their work.
In the framework of the course, two intense sessions were held and 6 research projects were presented. The sessions can described in three words: discussions, sharing of knowledge, and inspiration. Master students were also part of the audience. Even though they could not be (fully) part of the course, they joined the discussion and we hope they found something new for themselves and their future research projects.
“…it was not a typical format of work for me, but I really enjoyed it and it helped me to gain new experience and apply my knowledge and skills” Elza Valieva, (PhD candidate, KFU)
“….Discussions and feedback from Professor Schoukens made me look at my research from different angle and helped out to formulate and make research questions more clear” Dilyara Garafova (PhD candidate, KFU)
“….I am happy KFU students had a chance to follow the course, it was really unique opportunity for all of us, to try ourselves working in completely different conditions using a new approach” Lenara Klimovskaya (Phd candidate, KFU)
